VENUE HIRE MENUS
2 - Charing Cross - London
As we departed Charing Cross on the 08:45 locomotive, I pondered upon the great weight of coal that would be consumed. Just forty-three years after Stephenson’s Rocket graced rails, a vast continental network would enable my quick passage.
Hendrick’s Orbium gin, lapsang souchong-infused Martini Rosso sweet vermouth, Drambuie Scotch whisky liqueur, homemade vanilla syrup and fresh lemon juice
3 - Dover - England
Rarely sentimental, I tipped my hat to this green and pleasant land. The sun never sets on the British empire, yet nowhere can an Englishman truly call home other than this little island.
The Botanist gin, homemade lavender & sage honey syrup, orange juice, fresh lemon juice and ylang ylang essence
4 - Paris - France
Steaming through France, the conductor showed hospitality as only the French can, with a fine cognac. Having studied my timetables, I informed Passepartout that our short carriage ride ‘tween Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon would be his sole opportunity to see the Parisian boulevards.
Hennessy XO cognac, Byrrh Grand Quinquina aperitif, Martini Riserva Speciale Bitter aperitif and Dubonnet aperitif, topped up with Fentimans Soda Water
5 - Alps - France
With the Matterhorn in sight, the train, hugging the mountainous slopes, gradually wound higher and higher. As ice crystals crept up cabin windows, we charged our glasses to keep winter at bay.
Reyka vodka, Quaglia Pino Mugo pine liqueur, wild nettle & vanilla syrup, fresh lemon juice, fresh lime juice, double cream and egg white, topped up with Fentimans Tonic Water
6- Turin - Italy
The terracotta tiles of the aged Italian capital came into view. Pulling into the Turin station, we were met by the nutty chocolate aroma pouring out from a caffè. Passepartout’s stomach rumbled audibly; who was I to get in the way of his lust for cocoa?
Hazelnut & cocoa spread-infused Gentleman Jack Tennessee whiskey, Calem dry white port, Lucano amaro liqueur and maple syrup
7- Brindisi - Italy
On the shore of the Adriatic Sea, crates of produce from afar awaited their final destination. Being in good time for our 14:00 departure on the great steamer, the Mongolia, we took elevenses in the style of the boozy dockers.
Don Julio 1942 tequila, homemade salted grapefruit cordial, Italicus berganot liqueur, Martini Riserva Speciale Bitter aperitif and fresh lime juice
8 - Suez - Egypt
Connecting the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea through the Isthmus of Suez, the great cut channel of the Suez canal is a marvel of engineering. It vastly reduced the length of passage by sea from London to the port of Mumbai and was an essential aid to my travels.
Bacardi Carta Oro rum, Alipus San Juan mezcal, homemade African spice falernum, pimento liqueur, sugar syrup and fresh lime juice
9 - Red Sea - Gulf of Aden
I now know that Inspector Fix was in no doubt that I, Phileas J. Fogg, Esq., was a bankrobber and a crook. To chase me so far, never losing our trace, leaves me in admiration of the London bobby’s regard for the law.
Appleton Estate Signature Blend Jamaican rum, Illy coffee liqueur, banana & sea buckthorn stout syrup and cocoa essence, topped up with Moët & Chandon Brut Impérial N.V. Champagne
For up to six guests
10 - Bombay - India
At the end of the train line, we were left with no alternative than to commandeer an elephant and make onward tracks! We found room enough aboard Kiouni for Brigadier General Sir Francis Cromarty, Passepartout, our Parsee guide, me and, happily, a little later, Mrs Aouda.
The Botanist gin, Cointreau orange liqueur, cinnamon tincture, white wine & elderflower cordial, apple juice, lychee juice and fresh lime juice
11 - Valley of the Ganges - India
Deep in the jungle, we came across the funeral procession of Bundelkhandi Rajah. The tradition of suttee commanded that his young widow, Aouda, be burnt alive upon his pyre. It was Passepartout’s quick-thinking and bravery that had saved the life of my future wife.
Bombay Sapphire gin, Grand Marnier orange liqueur, homemade clementine & vanilla syrup, calamansi juice, peach bitters, egg white and homemade lemongrass soda
12 - Calcutta - India
Once again, my carpet bag had become somewhat lighter in Calcutta. To save my manservant from a sentence of imprisonment, a hefty sum of two thousand pounds was passed to the judge to placate three Hindi priests. Time lost: four hours and twenty-three minutes.
Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve Scotch whisky, Picon Amer aperitif, Cocchi Vermouth di Torino, homemade toasted barley syrup and orange & mandarin bitters
13 - The Fathoms of Bengal
The steamer Rangoon sped us towards Hong Kong from Calcutta. Three thousand five hundred miles, twelve days and the perfect time to further befriend Mrs Aouda. She quietly sipped exotic tinctures as I explained the rules of whist.
Woodford Reserve Bourbon whiskey, Santa Teresa Rhum Orange liqueur, pimento liqueur, date syrup, orange bitters and chocolate bitters
14 - Andaman and Nicobar Islands
Whilst the views are exquisite, the same cannot be said for the tastes of the Andaman Sea, where salangane nests are eaten as a delicacy. Best for one to stick to a liquid diet and add some spice for good measure.
Smoked tomato & basil-infused Żubrówka vodka, Emilio Lustau Botaina Amontillado sherry, lemon juice and homemade spicy tomato sauce mix
15 - Singapore
A stop-off at Singapore marked the halfway point within our journey. Having gained half a day, I allowed for a short carriage ride through the countryside. It seems that Aouda’s interest in the native fauna and flora emphasised my more pleasant characteristics.
