Explorer Series: Emily Penn
Monday 30th May | 7.01pm - 9.31pm
Mr Fogg's Residence
Our third Mr Fogg’s Explorer Series talk of 2022 sees us welcome ocean advocate and skipper: Emily Penn.
Emily has spent the last decade exploring plastic pollution from the tropics to the Arctic. Dedicated to solving the plastic problem, she has organised the largest ever community-led waste clean-up from a tiny Tongan island, trawled for microplastics on a voyage through the Arctic Northwest Passage, rounded the planet on the record-breaking biofuelled boat Earthrace, and worked on a sailing cargo ship trading western supplies for coconuts.
Emily will share her insights from high seas to low-lying islands, connecting her experiences to the challenges facing today’s society. She will delve into the issue of ocean plastic pollution; from rigorous scientific analysis to developing solutions involving large-scale community and industry involvement.
